We’ve all been students. We’ve experienced sitting in a classroom and either not understanding what’s going on, grasping everything quickly and wanting to move ahead, or feeling disengaged because the material didn’t connect.

If we’ve all felt that at least once, imagine what it means at scale.

There’s a widespread issue in education where students don’t feel like learning is meant for them.

The teacher isn’t to blame: they’re one person, brave enough to be lifelong learners and enter the classroom everyday to shape young minds. But the traditional tools to support every student’s individual needs have been limited.

At least until now.

Flint’s mission is to personalize learning for students. To empower educators to teach to every student in their class, not just to the median level. To transform the system of education to the extent that students reaching their full potential is the norm, not the exception to the rule.

The answer isn’t to increase the load on teachers. It’s not to throw away the current K-12 system and replace it with 2 hour school days.

The answer is to work closely with schools, with the educators who have dedicated their lives to the next generation, to build a platform with student learning at its core.

Since starting Flint in 2023, we’ve iterated closely with educators to co-build a best-in-class platform for personalizing learning for students across every subject.

With Flint, educators have seen improved test scores, deeper engagement, and new ways to turn creative ideas into interactive learning experiences.

Students, meanwhile, can get:

  • Speaking practice for hundreds of languages after class hours

  • Role-play in historical simulations

  • Practice reading with leveled texts and vocabulary support

  • Code alongside an AI collaborator

  • Get instant writing guidance

  • Participate in guided science labs

  • Annotate diagrams and draw graphs with comprehensive feedback

  • Even create and share their own passion projects with peers across their school community.

Our most popular activity was actually created by a student who wanted to use Flint to prepare for AP exams.

None of this would have happened without our partner schools, who have been co-building Flint from day 0 to where we are today. Thank you for supporting our dream and the dreams of every student you teach. We’re proud to have partnered with hundreds of schools across the world, to be serving hundreds of thousands of students every month, to be working for the education community at large.

Thank you to our investors, from our first believers Afore and YC, to newer members (some of who are Flint parents!) for backing us with the dollars necessary for us to work hand in hand with schools on this moonshot bet. EdTech is a small market, and rightfully so. We’ve gone from quizzes on paper to quizzes on screens, Scantrons to radio buttons. And while efficiency has improved, leading edtech platforms are closer to course and gradebook management software than they are to solving to the greatest opportunity and challenge in education: personalizing learning at scale. AI creates an opportunity to change that, and we’re excited to be working with new investors like Basis Set, Patron, Matt Pittinsky (co-founder of Blackboard), and many others who share our vision.

This round of funding is an early stepping stone. An accelerant for a long journey ahead. We’re excited to build the future of learning, together.
