Pit Stop

A classroom racing game that turns clean up, line up and every K–2 transition into a race against your class's own best time.

  • Free
  • Student-facing
  • K–2
  • No sign-up
Pit Stop race screen: the class's red race car drives toward a checkered flag while a see-through ghost car shows the class's best time.

A clean up timer your K–2 class races

Your class races a ghost car that drives at their best time for that transition. Tap a picture card to start, and tap DONE when everyone's ready. Beat the flag and the class earns a piece of track. Beat the ghost and it's a new record. If the class misses, the car still finishes with a calm "So close! Let's get it next time." Nothing is ever taken away.

How Pit Stop works

  1. Pit Stop start screen with track and class car pickers.

    Pick your track and car

Choose from six tracks, including a limited-time Halloween track, and the class car: race car, monster truck, school bus or rocket.

  2. The Garage: the class car, a trophy shelf, and six picture cards for classroom transitions.

    Tap a transition

Six big picture cards: Clean Up, Line Up, Carpet, Tables, Pack Up and Centers. Each card is a picture plus one word, so pre-readers know what to do.

  3. Pit Stop race: the class car drives toward the checkered flag as a ghost car shows the class's best time.

    Race the ghost car

"3, 2, 1, GO!" The class car drives toward the checkered flag, your target time, while the ghost car drives at your class's best. Tap DONE or press the space bar when everyone's ready.

  4. "You did it!" screen with a new record trophy, the race time and a new track piece.

    Celebrate together

Beat the flag and the class gets confetti and a new track piece. Beat the ghost and they get a trophy and a new record. Win by less than 3 seconds and the finish replays as a slow-motion photo finish.

What's in the game

The ghost car

Your class competes against itself, not another class, so the game stays fun all year without singling anyone out.

A track that grows all year

Every win adds a piece of track. Every 10 wins unlocks a landmark: a tunnel, bridge, beach, volcano, castle and space station. Four bonus vehicles unlock at 25, 50, 75 and 100 wins. Wins only add up, so a hard day never undoes a good week. On Fridays, show the whole map in Grand Prix view.

Exciting, never stressful

There are no buzzers, no red flashing and no lost points. A missed round ends with "So close! Let's get it next time."

Run it from across the room

Start and finish a race from the keyboard. Most presentation clickers send the right arrow, so a clicker works too.

Teacher controls

Set a target time for each card, choose a race pace (Relaxed, Normal or Speedy), switch tracks and cars, turn on Quiet mode and preview every unlock. Settings open only after a short press-and-hold, so little hands can't wander in.

Seasonal tracks

City Streets, Desert Canyon, Snowy Mountain, Beach Boardwalk, Space Highway and a limited-time Halloween Hollow.

Built for K–2

  • No reading required: every card is a picture plus one word.
  • Readable from the back of the room, with big cars, a big road and a big DONE button.
  • Whole class only. There are no student names, no individual scores and no "who was slow".
  • No strobing or fast flashing. The class car and ghost car differ by transparency and outline, not only color.
  • Quiet mode mutes everything for testing days.

No accounts, no student data

Pit Stop needs no accounts and stores no student data. Progress is saved in the teacher's browser on that computer, and teachers can export it and import it to move to a new laptop.

Pit Stop questions

What grades is Pit Stop for?
It's designed for K–2 classrooms (kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade), where much of the day is transitions.
Can I use Pit Stop as a clean up timer?
Yes. Clean Up is one of the six cards, with a default target of 1:30 that you can change. The class races the ghost car while they tidy up, and you tap DONE when the room is clean.
Do students need accounts?
No. There are no accounts or sign-ins, and no student names or data are stored.
What do I need to run it?
A browser on a smartboard, projector or laptop. Chrome works best, and full screen is one click.
Can I run it from across the room?
Yes. Keys 1–6 start a transition, Space or the right arrow means done, P pauses and Esc cancels. Most presentation clickers send the right arrow, so a clicker works too.
What happens if the class misses the target?
The car still finishes with a calm "So close! Let's get it next time." No points are lost and no track is taken away.
Can I change the target times?
Yes. Every card has its own target time, and Race pace makes all targets easier (Relaxed) or harder (Speedy).
What's the ghost car?
A see-through car that drives at your class's best time for that transition. Beat it and you set a new record.
Where is our progress saved?
In your browser on that computer. Use Export and Import in Settings to move it to another computer.
