What this is about
Flint is a learning tool that uses AI to help you study. "AI" means smart computer software, like our learning guide Sparky. To make Flint work, we need to collect and use some of your information. This page explains what we collect, why, and what choices you have.
"Information" (or "data") means facts about you — like your name, your email, or the messages you send to our AI.
By using Flint, you're agreeing to this policy and to our Terms and Conditions.
What information we collect
Some of it you give us. Some of it is collected automatically when you use Flint.
Things you give us:
Your name
Your email address
Your Google profile picture (if you sign in with Google)
A username and password
The chats you have with our AI
Anything you send us, like feedback or questions

What kind of device, browser, and operating system you use
Your IP address (a number that shows roughly where your device is on the internet)
Your general location
How you use Flint — like which pages you visit and which features you use
We use small files called cookies to help do this. You can turn cookies off in your browser, but some things may stop working.
Checking your age: If you sign up for Flint on your own (not through a school), we ask for your date of birth so we can check you're old enough to use Flint in your country. We only use it for that one check — we don't save it, and we don't use it for anything else.

Make Flint work and keep it running smoothly
Answer your questions and give you support
Keep Flint safe and stop cheating, hacking, and fraud
Make Flint better over time
Send you important messages (you can turn off marketing emails anytime)
Follow the law
We only use your information when we have a good, legal reason to.
Special rules for students
If you're a student, we take extra care with your information. This is what we promise:
We use student information only for learning and school — nothing else.
We do not sell it.
We do not use it to show you ads.
Your school owns your student information, including your name, ID number, and photo.
Things you create in Flint (like chat messages, essays, or recordings) are treated as school records. Your parent or school can look at them or ask us to delete them.
Kids under 13 can use Flint, but a parent or school has to give permission first.
These rules follow two U.S. laws made to protect students: COPPA (for kids under 13) and FERPA (for school records).
Who we share information with
We don't sell your information. But we do share some of it with trusted companies that help us run Flint, such as:
Google and Microsoft (for signing in)
Intercom (for chat support)
Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, and Avina (to see how Flint is used and fix problems)
These companies have to follow rules and can only use your information to help us. They can't use it for their own reasons.
We might also share information if:
Our company is bought by or joined with another company (the new owner has to keep these same promises)
The law, a court, or the police requires it
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you don't need it anymore, or you ask us to delete it, we safely erase it. Sometimes the law makes us keep certain things a little longer.
How we keep it safe
We use security tools and careful steps to protect your information. But no website or app can be 100% safe from hackers. We do our best, but we can't promise nothing bad will ever happen. Only use Flint on a safe, trusted internet connection.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you can:
Ask to see the information we have about you
Fix information that's wrong
Delete your information
Ask us to stop using it in certain ways
Get a copy of it
Take back your permission at any time
The easiest way to do any of this is to email support@flintk12.com. If you're a student, you can also ask your parent or school for help.
If you ever feel we didn't handle your information properly, you can tell a government privacy office in your country (like the ICO in the UK).
If something goes wrong (a security problem)
If there's ever a security problem that affects your information, we'll tell you as soon as we can. We'll explain what happened, what it affected, and what we did about it. We'll reach out by email, on our website, or through other ways.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy sometimes. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date, and if it's a big change, we'll let you know. It's a good idea to check back now and then.
