AI lesson plan generator
Tell Sparky the topic and grade in one line, or attach your unit guide. Sparky writes a lesson plan with an objective, timed steps, checks for understanding and differentiation, ready to print or send to Google Docs or Word.

How the lesson plan generator works
Say what students should learn
Type the topic and grade, such as "a water cycle lesson for 6th grade", and attach your unit guide if you have one. If the class length or the standard is missing, Sparky may ask before it writes.
Read the draft
The plan opens in a document beside the chat. Ask for changes in plain words, like "shorten the mini-lesson" or "add a lab", or click into the document and type.
Teach from it
Print the plan, copy it into your planner, save it to Google Drive as a Google Doc, or download it as a Word file.
What you can put in a lesson plan
Standards you name
Give a standard's code or paste its wording, such as NGSS MS-ESS2-4 or your state's standard. Sparky ties the objective and the checks for understanding to it.
Times that fit your class
Tell Sparky how long the period is, or that you teach a 90-minute block, and each step of the lesson gets its own time.
Checks for understanding
Questions to ask while students work, and an exit ticket at the end with the answers. Each one checks the lesson's objective.
Differentiation
Support for students who need more help, sentence frames for multilingual learners and an extension for students who finish early. Describe the needs in your class and Sparky plans for them.
Your school's format
Attach your school's lesson plan template and ask Sparky to fill it in, or start from one of our free lesson plan templates. School admins can also describe the format they expect in Flint's school settings, and Sparky keeps it in mind for every teacher at the school.
The materials it calls for
In the same chat, ask for the slides, worksheet or reading the plan mentions. Each one comes as its own file you can export.
Plan a unit, then each lesson
Sparky also works as a unit planner. Give the topic, grade, number of days and standards, or attach your pacing guide, and you get a unit plan in one document.
The unit at a glance
Unit objectives tied to your standards, the materials, and a table with each lesson's objective, vocabulary, timed steps, check for understanding and differentiation.
A final assessment and rubric
The unit ends with the test or project you ask for, such as a performance task, and a rubric whose rows name the standards they score.
Each day's lesson plan
Ask for "lesson 4" and Sparky writes that day's full plan from the unit, as its own document you can print or export.
Ways teachers use it
Reteaching
Attach the quiz or exit tickets most of the class missed, and get a lesson that teaches the skill again a different way.
SEL lessons
Ask for a lesson on a skill like handling frustration, with discussion prompts and a reflection students don't have to share.
Project-based learning
A project built on a driving question, with checkpoints along the way and a final product students present.
Sub plans
A plan a substitute can follow step by step, with times, directions to read aloud and what students hand in. Our sub plan templates add the schedule, routines and who can help.

Frequently asked questions
Is the lesson plan generator free?
Yes, it's free for teachers, and there's no limit on how many lesson plans you can make.
What does a lesson plan from Sparky include?
An objective, the standards you name, materials, a timed sequence of steps, checks for understanding, differentiation and closure. If your school uses another structure, such as I do, we do, you do, ask for it or attach your template.
Can it follow my curriculum and standards?
Yes. Attach your unit guide, curriculum pages, slides or a link, or import a file from Google Drive or OneDrive, and name the standard you're teaching. Sparky builds the plan from what you attach, so it uses your vocabulary and your activities.
Can it write a unit plan, an SEL lesson or a project?
Yes. Ask for any of them in this chat. A unit plan lists each lesson in order and ends with a final assessment, and you can then ask for each day's lesson plan. Flint also has a Unit Plan Generator, an SEL Lesson Plan Generator and a Project Based Learning tool, each with its own instructions for that kind of plan.
Can it write a 5E lesson plan?
Yes. Ask for a 5E lesson here, or open the 5E model lesson plan generator, which keeps the Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate phases in order.
Can I download the lesson plan as a Google Doc, Word file or PDF?
The plan has buttons to copy it, print it, save it to your Google Drive as a Google Doc, or download it as a Word file. For a PDF, choose Save as PDF in the document's Download menu, or press Print and pick Save as PDF in your browser's print window.
