Attach what the student gave you
Say who the letter is for and what they're applying to, and attach their brag sheet or résumé if you have one.
Answer Sparky's questions
Sparky reads the file, then asks what you remember about the student in your class and how strongly you recommend them. One or two sentences is enough.
Edit the letter and sign it
The letter opens in a document beside the chat. Ask for changes, like "shorter" or "more about her leadership", or click in and type. Then add your name and send it to Google Docs or Word.

Is the letter of recommendation generator free?
Yes, it's free for teachers, and there's no limit on how many letters you can write.
Is there a letter of recommendation template I can reuse?
Yes. Ask Sparky for a template and it writes one in the chat with brackets to fill in: how you know the student, an academic strength with a story, their character, why they fit the opportunity, and how strongly you recommend them. For a finished letter, give Sparky the student's details and a story instead, and it fills the template in for you.
Will Sparky make up things about my student?
Sparky is told not to invent experiences, achievements or how strongly you recommend the student, so it asks for a story from your class before it writes. It uses what you tell it and what's in the files you attach. Read every sentence and check it against what you know before you send the letter.
Can I upload a brag sheet or résumé?
Yes. Attach a PDF or Word file, or import one from Google Drive or OneDrive. Sparky pulls the activities, grades and goals from it, and asks you for what only you know, such as a moment from class.
Is it OK to use AI to write a recommendation letter?
The letter is yours: it's built from your stories and your judgment, and you read, edit and sign it. Sparky saves the time spent on structure and wording. Write the parts only you can, such as the story from class, in your own words if you prefer.
Can I download the letter as a Google Doc, Word file or PDF?
The letter has buttons to copy it, print it, save it to your Google Drive as a Google Doc, or download it as a Word file. For a PDF, choose Save as PDF in the document's Download menu, or press Print and pick Save as PDF.
Can students use it?
No. It's a teacher tool. Students applying to college have the college application helper for their own essays.
