Token boards and visual supports

Tell Sparky what your student is working toward and get a token board they can tap, or a first-then board, visual schedule or voice level chart to print or project.

A teacher asks Sparky for a token board her student can tap to earn 5 tokens toward computer time. Beside the chat, the board Sparky built shows a first-then strip, first reading, then computer time, five earned stars and a celebration: You earned Computer Time!

Used by 250,000+ teachers, and built to FERPA, COPPA and GDPR standards.

How Sparky makes a visual support

  1. Say who it's for and what they're working toward

Type one line, such as "a token board my student can tap to earn 5 tokens toward computer time". Use the reward and the words your student already knows.

  2. Get a board to tap, print or project

Ask for a board the student taps and Sparky builds one beside the chat. Ask for a chart or a schedule and Sparky writes a page to print or project.

  3. Change it with your student in mind

Ask for fewer tokens, a different reward or a first-then strip on top, and Sparky updates the same board.

Visual supports Sparky can make

  • Token board

Tokens your student taps to fill, a count of how many are earned, and a celebration when the last one is filled. Name the reward and it shows on the board. Reset starts a new round.

  • First-then board

First the task, then what comes next, such as first math, then Legos. Sparky draws it as a picture to print or project, or adds a first-then strip above a token board.

  • Visual schedule

Send your times and activities and Sparky lays them out in order with a picture for each one, so students see what's next at a glance.

  • Voice level chart

Numbered levels from silent up to your loudest, with what each sounds like and when to use it, such as a whisper for partner work.

Made with your student in mind

  • Their reward, in their words

Name the reward, the tokens and the pictures your student knows, such as stars for computer time or stickers for recess.

  • Print it or share it

Press Print for a paper copy, or Share to open the board to your class. Charts and schedules print as pages.

  • Changes made to the same board

Ask Sparky for a change and it updates the board in place. The arrows above it go back to earlier versions.

What teachers say about Flint

  • "My students love being able to interact with the material. They can ask questions, explore topics in their own words, and revisit explanations as many times as they need. That kind of autonomy and repetition is huge for SPED learners."

  • "I've asked Flint to include movement breaks and humor during sessions, which has been fantastic for keeping the energy up. After a particularly lively 20-minute session, one of my 3rd graders exclaimed, 'I just learned so many new things!'"

Frequently asked questions

Is the token board maker free?

Yes, it's free for teachers.

What is a token board?

A board where a student earns a token, such as a star, for each step of work, and gets a reward they chose once the board is full. It makes a long wait for the reward visible, one token at a time.

What is a first-then board?

Two panels that show what happens first and what comes next, such as first reading, then computer time. It tells a student what the task is and that the thing they want is coming.

How do I make a visual schedule?

Give Sparky the times and activities, such as 8:00 arrival and 8:15 morning meeting. Sparky writes the schedule in order with a picture for each activity, ready to project or print. Ask for fewer steps for younger students.

Can my student use the token board on a tablet?

Yes. Ask for a board your student can tap, and Sparky builds one beside the chat. Press Share to open it to your class, or keep it open on the classroom tablet.

Can a token board go in a student's behavior plan or IEP?

A token board is often one of the supports a behavior plan names. Our IEP generator drafts behavior goals and plans for your team to review; make the board itself here.

Can I change the board after Sparky makes it?

Yes. Ask for fewer tokens, a different reward or a first-then strip, and Sparky updates the same board. The arrows above it go back to earlier versions.
