How the seating chart maker works
Add your roster and the room
Attach your class list as a spreadsheet, a document, a PDF or a photo, or paste the names into the chat. Say how the room is set up, such as six tables of four or five rows of six.
Say who needs a certain seat
Sparky asks who needs to be near the board or the door and who works better apart. Answer in one line, like "Jaden needs a front seat", and Sparky updates the chart.
Print it
Sparky writes the chart as a table, with the front of the room at the top. Ask for it as a document to print it, save it to Google Drive or download a Word file.
What you can put on a seating chart
Any room layout
Rows, pairs, tables, a U shape or lab benches. Describe the room in words and Sparky lays the table out the same way, with names or as a blank template.
Seats near the board or door
Name the students who need to see the board up close, sit by the door or be near your desk, and Sparky gives them those seats.
Students who work better apart
Name the pairs to separate, or the partners who help each other, and Sparky seats them that way.
A reason for each move
When Sparky moves students, it says in the chat who moved and why, so you can check its thinking before you print.
An A to Z list for a sub
Ask for the names in alphabetical order with each student's table, so a substitute can find anyone in a few seconds.
Every class you teach
Attach the next period's roster in the same chat and ask for another chart with the same room layout.

The first day
Seat a new class from the roster before you know anyone, so every student has a place on day one and you can learn names faster.
A fresh start mid-year

Test days
Rows with space between students for a quiz or test, then the usual tables again the next day.
Substitute days
A printed chart with the names in alphabetical order, so a substitute can take attendance and call students by name.

Is the seating chart maker free?
Yes, it's free for teachers, and there's no limit on how many seating charts you can make.
Can AI make a seating chart?
Yes. Attach your roster, say how the room is set up and who needs a certain seat, and Sparky writes the chart as a table with the front of the room at the top. Check it, ask for changes in plain words, then print it.
What can I upload as a roster?
An Excel file, a Word document, a PDF or a photo of your class list. You can also import the file from Google Drive or OneDrive, or paste the names into the chat. First names are enough.
Can I print the seating chart or save it as a PDF?
Yes. Ask Sparky to put the chart in a document. The document has buttons to copy it, print it, save it to your Google Drive as a Google Doc, or download it as a Word file. For a PDF, press Print and choose Save as PDF in your browser's print window.
Is there a seating chart template I can print?
Yes. Ask Sparky for a blank seating chart template for your room, such as five rows of six desks. Sparky makes a document with lines for the class, date and teacher, the front of the room marked, and an empty box for each desk, ready to print, save as a Google Doc or download as a Word file.
Can I drag students to new seats?
No. The chart is a table, not a drag-and-drop floor plan. Tell Sparky who to move, such as "swap Ava and Noah", or click into the document and change the names yourself. For a drag-and-drop chart you can shuffle, try the free Seating Planner.
Is it safe to upload my class roster?
Yes. Student data in Flint is never used to train AI models and is not shared with third parties. Sparky only needs first names, so leave student IDs, grades and other details out of the file.
